Most years, on February 28th, I am doing cartwheels and celebrating the end of winter and the beginning of spring. I know, I know 'real' spring doesn't start for another 3 weeks. But, trust me, when you live where I live, you have to be creative with how you survive the long, cold winters. ๐ฅถ
That's why I created what I call 'psychological winter'. Yep. Winter is only allowed the space of November 1st through February 28th in my brain. Period. Full stop.
But, of course, there's always a catch or a curveball to navigate with any plan or system. And, the one that throws a spanner in the works with mine is...
February 29th.
#@&! Leap year! ๐
I mean, how dare winter steal one more day of my life, right?!?
At least, that's how I used to feel about leap years.
Until I did a reframe.
If you're not familiar with what a reframe is, in a nutshell, it's a very powerful coaching tool that helps you consider different ways of looking at circumstances, situations, problems or challenges that empowers you instead of leaving you feeling frustrated and stuck.
Take February 29th as an example.
Instead of being bummed that I have to endure another day of winter, I've decided to look at this extra day as a gift of time.
Think about it. We are being given one full extra day. That's an additional 24 hours or an extra 1440 minutes of a very precious commodity we call time.
And, let's be honest, who here wouldn't benefit from a little extra time? ๐โโ๏ธ Especially since 'not having enough time' seems to be one of the top items of complaint for most of us. ๐
But hold on. ๐ Before you jump on board my reframe wagon, full disclosure, this reframe causes us to face an even deeper question. The question of:
How will we spend this extra 1440 minute gift of time?
Will we spend it swimming along in the status quo? Showing up with an attitude of, "it's just another day where I have to do XYZ just like any other day"? ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Or, will we choose to spend at least some of it on something special? In a way that honors the uniqueness of the opportunity it presents?
Because time is always ticking. ๐
And, it's a resource we can't ever get it back.
So, how about we choose to spend some of this February 29th in an intentional, purpose-filled, meaningful way?
Perhaps we might spend it getting started on that idea or dream we've been carrying around deep inside our hearts?
Hmmmm...๐ค yes...perhaps tomorrow is when we will finally speak it out loud and take one tiny step in allowing it to see the light of day. ๐
And, if/when you're ready and want to have someone walk alongside you as you bring that idea or dream to life, I invite you to book a call with me so we can explore how we might build it together!
